I work in a music store and had the package in my hands tonight. The case is made of cheap, *cheap* plastic, hinged at the bottom in a clamshell design, and held together with nothing more than tape, which means that shoplifting of the DVDs is going to be a major concern with retailers. The head is covered in a plastic slipcase that mimics the previous seasons’ design on the side. The slipcase doesn’t fit very well, and doesn’t improve the look of the case at all.

There is NO second box inside. However– here’s the good news. There is a card inside the box with a phone number you can call to get a regular box for the discs– this is probably where the “Green box” pictures have come from. The clamshell won’t last very long– the plastic isn’t sturdy enough– so I suspect many, *many* people will be taking advantage of this offer sooner or later.

Worst. Packaging. Ever. But at least we can send off for a real box. Hopefully they won’t repeat this nonsense.

This on should be good, all the episodes were great! Wonder what the cover color will be, maybe yellow?

It isn’t hard to see why this movie garnered so many kudos after its release. The acting is superb. (Note: Temeura Morrison later stated that he was “scarred” for quite a while emotionally and mentally after playing Jake.) The unexcelled acting in AND the directing of this film, in this viewer’s opinion, show the exact nature of family violence more clearly than other presentation in any media ever has. At first I was unwilling to see another film dealing with the subject, especially since I the results of domestic violence almost daily on my job. Now I say that if you watch only one film on the matter in your life, make it this one. For an American viewer, the fact that all the action takes place in Auckland, New Zealand helps give the distance needed for an honest perspective on the theme. Then the highly skilled actors (may we see more of all of them!)play the story out as it happens to thousands of families all over the world, totally stripping domestic violence of any excuse to be. By the heart-rending and horrific end of the movie there can be no doubt in anyone’s mind that neither substance abuse, cultural conditioning, disenfranchised cultures, poverty nor a host of other things often invoked as “reasons” justify turning one’s household into a war zone. Most family violence perpetrators are not hardcore psychopaths; they are “Jakes”, and they have no excuse for what they do to their families. A beautiful film that makes its point without resulting to melodrama and sensationalism. It’s a credit to all involved with the production that we look in on the lives of one family in crisis and realize, knowing that this scene is repeated thousands of time daily worldwide, the ultimate devastation brought about by “routine” family violence. A brilliant presentation. A “must see.”

Set in New Zealand, this excellent film portrays a small urban subculture of disenfranchized Maori, focusing on one disfunctional family. All the characters are compelling. There’s Jake, the hard-drinking, brawling husband, always bitterly aware that he comes from a long line of slaves. And Beth, his full-blooded Maori wife, from a royal tribal line. Their sons: Boogie, ward of the court and sentenced to a Maori-centric boys’ home; and Nig, prospecting for membership in an urban tribal gang. There’s Grace, their sensitive 13-year-old daughter, who writes fanciful stories for her younger siblings and a homeless boy who lives in a car. And there are Jake’s party-buddies, his beloved extended “family” — “uncles” to his kids. The accents, ethnic traditions, martial arts, and particularly the facial tattooing of the Toa will appear “exotic” to the American audience. But the alcoholism, unemployment, domestic violence, teen delinquency, and child abuse are themes common anywhere. These subjects are presented with compassion. You’ll come to genuinely care for all the characters. Even for Jake who, despite his brutality, is a tragic human being. I highly recommend “Once Were Warriors”. The soundtrack alone will blow you away. The performances by all the actors are extraordinary and the ending will leave you breathless. Don’t miss this one!

Little need be said here to convince you to buy this disc if you grew up watching these on TV horror shows like I did (and assembling the model kits, buying the mags, they were called mags then, etc.) If you’re new to the Universal classics all I can say is what are you waiting for? Universal is thankfully giving us the lesser titles as two-fors, so it really makes buying them just about irresistable. OK, so Son and Ghost are on the downhill slide after the peak of Bride, but still far more entertaining and well-made (particularly Son) than what typically passes for a movie now. And if you’re a fan of Young Frankenstein, Son is an absolute must-see. You can find out all about the movies a million other places so I’m talking about the DVD.
First, the good news. The prints look spectacular, even better than those used on the previous VHS editions. I don’t know if it’s just the increased resolution of DVD or if they did some additional work on the prints, but they are so much richer and detailed than the pre-records it’s just stunning. Not to mention that my VHS copy of Son in particular is riddled with dropouts.
The extras are minimal, including chapter stops, talent bios, and a trailer for Ghost (Son’s trailer is mysteriously missing). What annoys me about this DVD though, and keeps it from a five star review, is the irritating and self-serving way Universal has structured the disc. What I mean is that, besides the obligatory WARNING screen that we’re now all forced to sit through when we pop in a DVD, on this disc when you press the onscreen “Play the Movie” button, you’re also forced to sit through over a minute of Universal’s marketing twaddle before the actual movie starts. OK, you can click through it to the opening titles or you can go straight into the movie from the chapter stops screen (an easy enough workaround once you figure it out) but it’s still mildly annoying how they constantly try to shove this marketing crap in your face. Don’t let this minor gripe stop you from buying, it’s just a drag ’cause this disc would be near-perfect otherwise. I am waiting expectantly for all the rest of them. Monolith Monsters on DVD! I can dream can’t I?

I have been a fan of the Universal monsters for as long as I can remember. These movies give us a chance to see some of the greatest actors of the Universal horror era (e.g., Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney Jr., Lionel Atwill, Sir Cedwick Harwicke to mention a few.)

In the Son of Frankenstein (sequel to Bride of Frankenstein), we see Karloff’s last performance as the Frankenstein monster but as in Frankenstein and Bride of, he gives a great performance. I wonder how the series may have been if Karloff had continued in the monster’s role. Basil Rathbone is the son trying to vindicate his father’s name, but Ygor, played by Bela Lugosi, has other plans.

In the Ghost of Frankenstein (sequel to Son of Frankenstein), Lon Chaney Jr. plays the Frankenstein monster and Bela Lugosi again plays Ygor and both are superb in their roles. It picks up where the Frankenstein monster is discovered in the sulphur pits. Sir Cedric Harwicke wants to dissect the monster but is convince by his father’s ghost to continue with his work. The sequel is Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man.

It is fanatic to have these movies on DVD.

Try watching these movies on a late stormy night.

I dont care what naysayers or even critics who get paid to criticize the film, this IS a worthy sequel. Sure it aint the same without Arnold being there throughout the movie but ever since watching flashbacks of the future war in the previous installments, id say it was about time that someone made a film that shows what happens next after judgement day happend. If you watch closely, you would notice more than one homage to the first two films. From seeing the ruins of observation area where the first terminator arrived in T1, Marcus showing Reese how to handle a shotgun by tying a string to it which Reese did in T1 to help hide his gun in his trenchcoat, to a similar chase scene with a truck & the motor-terminators lookin like the first chace scene in T2, and even John Connor playin ( You Could Be Mine)

by Gun’s N Roses to lower a motor-terminator into a trap etc. Anton Yelchin really impressed me as a young Kyle Reese throughout the film just as Sam Worthington played a great cyborg who later finds out he’s a pawn to eliminate mankind. Christian Bale pulled off John Connor well himself. As for Moon Bloodgood, Common, & Bryce Dallas Howard i would say it was unfair to discredit them when they didnt get that much screen time. But anyways, if you’re a true terminator fan you will enjoy this film. Especially the climax that leaves you wondering what awaits John connor in further battles. Keep in mind that the film takes place in the early years of the war and if you still dont like it, stick to the Terminator: TSCC tv series instead if thats more your taste.

Let me begin this by saying that I am a very big Terminator fan. I loved the three previous films, the third being the weakest in my opinion, and even loved the way that the television series was so true to the mythology of The Terminator. Though the Terminator Salvation did stay true to the mythology in terms of characters, location and historic story development.it simply fell short. Mc.G is an okay director….though the only thing I really half like of his is Charlies Angels full throttle. The cast is outstanding, and do put in a good performance…but the overall story of the film is wanting. Unlike the previous Terminator outings this film is not about fighting the future…instead this film is about a futuristic fight. The Terminator story line was simplified into a futuristic war movie. Don’t get me wrong…it was kinda cool to see the war with the machines in live action…but they could have and should have done more to make this story not only follow the mythology but “feel” like a Terminator film, quite literally you could have called this film Transformers 1 1/2 and it would have been just as good. The need for the future to be unknown, changing, and chasing after the present is one of the coolest things about the Terminator movie franchise and is one of the things that is desperately missing from this film…and keeps it from fitting comfortably in the Terminator series.

I literally felt robbed after this film, not only does the film not feel like a Terminator movie…but after its all said and done, as a viewer you realize that it was nothing more than a set up for a squeal. The failure for the Production Team to get the idea of the Terminator Mythos correct is devastating to this movie, and the shotty writing and reliance on spacial effects to carry the film is it’s downfall. In short this movie is allot of popcorn fun…but a very bad Terminator Movie.

This is a family movie, so you can buy (or rent it) without really flinching about dirty words or inappropriate behavior. Here are a dozen reasons why it’s OK and not so OK.

1) (Good) Steve Martin is perfect for these kind of roles. He remains the personification of the unflappable leading man that he’s portrayed in films like “Parenthood” and “Father Of The Bride.”

2) (Bad) Bonnie Hunt is wasted. She comes off well, but ultimately the kids and Martin have to carry the film.

3) (Good) The kids are likable, and, at times, very touching (Especially Mark/Fed Ex). None of them utter curse words or make smutty jokes.

4) (Bad) That the kids frequently flagrantly disobey house rules without any kind of discipline. (Although the pants and meat gag is the film’s best joke.) They plot and scheme sadistic traps ala “Home Alone” lite, and spend a fair amount of time saying how badly the parents’ work is interfering with their lives, never minding the fact that Dad’s new job is putting them into a higher standard of living then they’ve ever known before. (Tom Welling in particular.)

5) (Good) Nice to see parents who are willing to try to live their dreams, not shut everything else out of their lives and do so without resentment towards each other.

6) (Bad) Does anyone really believe you could practice a College football team in a back yard?

7) (Good) Despite having twelve kids on screen (OK, so Nora, the oldest, is living on her own), each kid gets some time to chew the scenery and does so without getting overtly cute or sugary.

8) (Bad) The DVD sports a serious lack of extras. Fox couldn’t fit a trailer on the disc but found space to promote the upcoming “Garfield?” Boo and hiss.

9) (Good) Ashton Kutcher playing right into type as Nora’s narcissistic boyfriend.

10) (Bad) I am getting really tired of all things Hillary Duff.

11) (Good) Any soundtrack that features 10,000 Maniacs and Fountains of Wayne is all right by me.

12) (Ultimate Good) The final messgae is that families can ultimately be happiest if they stay honest to themselves. Even in a movie as slight as “Cheaper By The Dozen,” it is a message that is usally ignored or, even worse, mocked by most current Hollywood fare, here it is movie’s strongest core statement. That alone makes “Cheaper By The Dozen” worth at least a viewing.

Turn loose some gratingly, implausibly screaming 13-year olds and you’ve got 75% of your flick. Steve Martin seems oddly miscast - there’s a few moments when he goes into his “schtick” that stand out like a sore thumb (like when Mom drives away to New York and he does “mad scientist Steve”). But basically this is a guy running his family into the ground because of putting his personal dreams before his kids.

Bonnie Hunt is likeable enough as always - Tom Welling seems pretty much wasted as a sulky teenager who gets picked on and goes through several changes of character for no reason. I’m heading home, Dad. I’m moving out. I’m going to stay. I hate you. You were right.

Welling doesn’t have that much screen-time and it seems every time he appears on screen he’s got a different personality. Hillary and Piper are tolerable. Ashton Kutcher is…well, Ashton Kutcher. He’s annoying but since we’re supposed to be rooting for the family against him, that’s not too surprising. he’s a bit too broad, though.

The movie probably pivots around the kiddies - Bill Mumy’s kid is cute, as is the Landis boy, a newcomer. They’re all annoyingly precocious but that’s pretty much par for the course with such movies. The supporting cast of non-family members don’t have much to do and truth be told, the film is busy enough with the family subplots as it is.

By the end the father’s learned a valuable lesson (so presumably have we), but one suspects most of the kids would be traumatized for life with such ludicrous parenting antics. Overall, CBTD seems to go a bit too far into the third-act pit of depression and tragedy before pulling it together for an upbeat conclusion.

A worthy rental maybe if you have some early teens in the house to “enjoy” the doozy predicament with.

As an American soldier currently serving overseas, I am so glad to finally have my copy of FarenHYPE 9/11. I’ve now watched both Moore’s video and this response to it. I came to the conclusion that Michael Moore is a big dumb animal! He seems to hate America. This video clearly shows how deceitful he really is. The most moving part was watching the wounded soldier discuss how upset he was that Moore exploited his injury to make Bush look bad. Everyone should see this.

To form an intelligent, balanced opinion, you have to view all points of view on a given subject. Given the biased, manipulated manner in which Michael “Bush eats babies!” Moore presents his case, the only way to get an alternate opinion is to view a movie such as this, which not only presents a counterpoint to Moore’s arguement, but also talks to the very same people that Moore claims to have interviewed for his movie. The best part, for me, is that FahrenHYPE 9/11 doesn’t even go in to the manipulative movie-making tactics that Moore employes to fool the audience, it simply lays out the statements given by the people in Moore’s movie and let’s the viewer decide.

“Easy Rider” directed by Dennis Hopper, produced by Peter Fonda and written by Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Terry Southern was a low budget film ($340 grand) that surprisingly became a box office smash. The story is about two hippys (Fonda & Hopper) who buy choppers with cash they’ve gotten from a drug deal. They ride cross country heading to Louisianna (to Mardi Gras) and on their way meeting different people, visiting a commune of hippys, ending up in jail, going to a brothel, taking acid etc. The ending was disturbing in 1969 and still is, even in these days of non-stop violence in our country. This 35th Anniversary Edition is identical to the regular dvd version of “Easy Rider” with the exact same bonus material “The Making-Of Documentary “Easy Rider: Shaking The Cage” (feat. interviews with Fonda, Hopper, etc.) and an audio commentary by Dennis Hopper plus production notes. The bonuses for this 35th Anniversary Edition are a cd which includes eight songs (do not confuse this cd with the actual “Easy Rider Soundtrack” as it is not). The songs are “Born To Be Wild” - Steppenwolf, “The Weight” - Smith, “Nights In White Satin” - The Moody Blues, “Wasn’t Born To Follow” - The Byrds, “San Francisco Nights” - Eric Burden And The Animals, “The Pusher” - Steppenwolf, “It’s Alright Ma (I’m Only Bleeding)” - Roger McGuinn and “Get Together” - The Youngbloods. The 80 page book “Easy Rider” by Lee Hill is interesting and includes all you’ll ever want to know about the film. The bottom line is, if you already own the regular dvd of “Easy Rider” I’d pass on this 35th Anniversary Edition. Of course, if you don’t own this classic film it may be worth the extra cash for the bonus cd and book.

I bought this title because I am a motorcyclist. If you have never ridden one and want to know what it is like, this movie will take you on a virtual road trip from Los Angeles through beautiful mountain scenery down to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. The two stars, Peter Fonda (Wyatt) and Dennis Hopper (Billy), head out on the highway to the motorcycle anthem, “Born to Be Wild” by Steppenwolf, and there are some fantastic camera shots of them crossing the Colorado River. If that scene doesn’t get your blood pumping, then you can be assured that motorcycling isn’t for you.

There’s a lot more to this movie than just scenic motorcycling and sixties music. A typical biker movie has a weak plot, usually involving some gang terrorizing the local community. Before creating this movie, Fonda and Jack Nicholson (George), as well as some of the other cast members all appeared in such flicks. By contrast, “Easy Rider” is really a mold-breaker for its type, because it involves a lot of social commentary.

Early in the movie, Billy and Wyatt pick up a stranger along the highway, who turns out to be the leader of a commune. He is a dead ringer for John Lennon, when he had his Sgt. Pepper look. Wyatt and the stranger get along well, but Billy is suspicious of the hitchhiker. They take him back to his commune and hang out for awhile there with the people. Wyatt fits in OK, but Billy is not generally respected. Many of them make fun of Billy. For some time, this was very hard for me to account for, since Billy is a freak.

I did not gain any insights into this until I read the book, “Riders On the Storm” by Doors’ drummer, John Densmore. In it, he explains how the Doors, who were from Los Angeles, were not invited to play the Monterey Pop Festival. San Francisco flower power was about peace and love, and Jim Morrison, the lead singer, gave off an aggressive vibe. Densmore also said that some famous flower power musicians did not want to be publicly associated with The Doors. For instance, John Sebastian agreed to play harmonica on “Roadhouse Blues,” but he would not allow his real name to be used in the credits. I believe that the difference in values between Los Angeles and San Francisco is crucial to understanding why Billy was rejected by the commune members.

Wyatt and Billy are not from San Francisco, and they do not wear psychedelic clothing. They hail from Los Angeles, and they are preoccupied with freedom–not peace and love. Billy has a real aggressive vibe to him. He is very confrontational, and he doesn’t get along well with others. Wyatt is more of a seeker. He is open-minded and interested in what other people have to offer. They’re both rich, but not through legal or reputable means. They smuggled some cocaine across the border from Baja, Mexico, and then they sold it for a huge profit. The two are friends, and they seem to have accepted each others strengths and weaknesses.

The movie makes some clear statements about sixties social values and morals. In other cases, it brings up issues, but doesn’t reach any firm conclusions. The movie ends tragically, but it isn’t an indictment of flower power. Billy had rejected peace and love, and had he not reacted in the confrontational manner that he did, things might have turned out differently. This movie is about the tradgedy and failure of hate–and the need for peace, love, and understanding. I give this movie a five-star rating because it documents the issues of the times so effectively. As a motorcycle movie, this production is practically unbeatable because it has captured the spirit of motorcycling so well.

Even if you’ve never seen John Ford’s THE SEARCHERS, you will have, undoubtedly, seen a film that owes it’s ’style’ to the film. DANCES WITH WOLVES, THE OUTLAW JOSIE WALES, UNFORGIVEN, JEREMIAH JOHNSON, and OPEN RANGE are just a few westerns that have ‘borrowed’ from it, but THE SEARCHERS’ impact transcends the genre, itself; STAR WARS, THE ENGLISH PATIENT, THE LAST SAMURAI, even THE LORD OF THE RINGS have elements that can be traced back to Ford’s 1956 ‘intimate’ epic. When you add the fact that THE SEARCHERS also contains John Wayne’s greatest performance to the film’s merits, it becomes easy to see why it is on the short list of the greatest motion pictures ever made.

The plot is deceptively simple; after a Comanche raiding party massacres a family, taking the youngest daughter prisoner, her uncle, Ethan Edwards (Wayne), and adopted brother, Martin Pawley (Jeffrey Hunter), begin a long quest to try and rescue her. Over the course of years, a rich tapestry of characters and events unfold, as the nature of the pair’s motives are revealed, and bigoted, bitter Edwards emerges as a twisted man bent on killing the ‘tainted’ white girl. Only Pawley’s love of his ’sister’ and determination to protect her stands in his way, making the film’s climax, and Wayne’s portrayal of Edwards, an unforgettable experience.

With all of Ford’s unique ‘touches’ clearly in evidence (the doorways ‘framing’ the film’s opening and conclusion, with a cave opening serving the same function at the film’s climax; the extensive use of Monument Valley; and the nearly lurid palette of color highlighting key moments) and his reliance on his ’stock’ company of players (Wayne, Ward Bond, John Qualen, Olive Carey, Harry Carey, Jr, Hank Worden, and Ken Curtis), the film marks the emergence of the ‘mature’ Ford, no longer deifying the innocence of the era, but dealing with it in human terms, where ‘white men’ were as capable of savagery as Indians, frequently with less justification.

Featuring 18-year old Natalie Wood in one of her first ‘adult’ roles, the sparkling Vera Miles as Pawley’s love interest, Wayne’s son Patrick in comic relief, and the harmonies of the Sons of the Pioneers accenting Max Steiner’s rich score, THE SEARCHERS is a timeless movie experience that becomes richer with each viewing.

It is truly a masterpiece!

Now considered possibly the greatest weatern movie of all-time, “The Searchers” was panned by the critics of its day for being just another “ho-hum” John Wayne western. It took years, but modern critics and viewers now recognize it as an epic of western filmmaking that perhaps will never be topped. If I had to choose one movie that represented the best of the west, it is undoubtedly “The Searchers”.

John Wayne gives his most intense acting performance as the dark and vengeful Ethan Edwards, who vows to kill the Commanche raiders that murdered his beloved sister-in-law, brother, and took captive two of their daughters. Wayne easily carries the film on his broad brooding shoulders, pursuing the Indians for over 5 years through summer and winter, ever relentless to see their chief, “Scar”, dead, and his captive nieces rescued.

Director John Ford is at the height of his creative powers in directing this western masterpiece. He weaves so many different themes and levels of interpretation into the film, that one discovers something new with each viewing. It would take a small treatise to bring out all the subtle details.

Succinctly and to the point, “The Searchers” is a film that you will watch again and again, and love it each time a bit more. It is that absolute best in western filmmaking!

I have never forgotten this film.

Let me emphasize broadly how wonderful this story is, without revealing critical details, climax and ending.

I saw this as a little girl. My entire grammar school viewed it together in the auditorium, and its shocking poignancy remained memorable for decades. (I’ll thank the availability of home videos, for allowing me to see this film again, now).

The catalyst for the intense drama that follows is this scene: One exasperated monk, trying to instill discipline in a beloved orphan boy, conjures up a rule. He exclaims, “You must NEVER climb this stairway!” to the attic.

The monk, Brother Francisco, is the dominant parent-figure, among the twelve Italian Franciscan monks, in an Hispanic land, who have adopted the youngster, Marcelino, at infancy.

Marcelino, being a child, curious, mischievous, climbs the stairs. In the attic, what he finds there, how he responds, ultimately forces the humble, bewildered monks to confront the mystical center, of their faith.

In many ways, this film subtly emanates the very spirit of St. Francis of Assisi. It’s as if I am glimpsing what Francis must have been like as a joyous child, and as a soul, early in life, opening to Love. The aptly named Brother Francisco eagerly embraces the abandoned infant, nurtures him, as Francis would do, for the varied creatures of nature. The film’s Brother Francisco is, fittingly, the first to witness an extraordinary occurrence in which Marcelino is involved.

Even if you are not Christian, the purity, generosity, exuberance, of this boy, might touch you. His deep-felt yearning to have a mother, to know his own mother, stirs my heart. It might be wise for adults to be on hand, if children watch this film. Some aspects could be misinterpreted, promoting unnecessary fear of loss, or even, of God.

In the story the monks at dinner read from The Little Flowers, an anthology of St. Francis anecdotes. You might check that work, as a complement to the film, as well as a small, moving book, on the prayer by St. Francis, written by Kent Nerburn, entitled, Make Me An Instrument Of Your Peace.

A beautiful film.

There are many foreign films that captivated or inspired me,such as Roberto Benigni’s “Life is Beautiful” and Federico Fellini’s “Nights of Cabiria”. But I haven’t seen a foreign film so beautiful or so spiritual than Lidislao Vajda’s “Miracle of Marcelino” (Marcelino pan y vino).
The Miracle of Marcelino is like a religious fairy tale that sends a message about hope and love. The film begins as an allegory where a town Franciscan monk is sent to tell a story to a terminally ill little girl about a miracle that occured several years ago. The story is based on the narration from this faithful monk.
After the Spanish civil war, twelve monks constructed their new monastary. Once they finished and settled in their new home, they had an unexpected surprise. A baby boy was given to them to take care of, inspite of their heavy work load. This boy, Marcelino, grows up to be a mischievous, but good hearted little five year old boy.
Because of Marcelino’s mischievousness and childhood innocence, the boy becomes a saint. By watching this masterpiece,you realize the importance of faith and the value of being a child. This film is definitely the best foreign film I’ve ever seen. Never watch this film dubbed. The quality is in the English subtitles with its original Spanish language.

You’re getting all 68 episodes (Including Pilot and Finale) spread out across 11 single sided discs. Unlike the Canadian releases, there are no flipper discs to be found in this complete set. Each disc has 6 episodes on it (Instead of the usual 4) Which brings me to my only complaint.

These discs are the same as the US releases seen here on Amazon. (Priced at 20 apiece) The 1st and 3rd season are each spread out across 4 discs, and the 2nd season across 3 discs. (11 total) While picture quality is not up to our standards of say… Lost. Due South wasn’t a high profile, big budget show to begin with. I’m not going to lie. The show could look better with re-mastering. But as long as you have a decent TV, it certainly looks better then when it was broadcasted. Certainly better then VHS, thats for sure.

The quality complaint is mostly aimed at the first season though. Season 2 and 3 look much cleaner and clearer. At a price of $33, I’d expect much worse. Quality’s no more worse then the first few seasons of the X-files. It’s a semi successful 90’s TV show, what does one expect?

All 11 discs are housed in what is essentially a fat DVD case. It takes up very little space on the shelf. (See customer photo’s) If the case was dropped though, expect a pile of plastic. Though the discs won’t get harmed.

So again, you’re getting the complete series, all 4 seasons in there American release. Meaning season 3 and 4 were combined to make a single 3rd season. Whether it’s the Canadian listing, or the American listing, it’s always going to be 68 episodes in total. The box set has no special features. Most importantly though, no flipper discs. I got this for $33 on Amazon.ca, which is very cheap for a complete show with 68 episodes.

It doesn’t look like Due South is getting a re-mastered Blu-ray treatment anytime soon (Though it obviously should) With all the confusing DVD’s releases, the split up seasons, and flipper disc/quality issues, this is the most affordable and easiest way to get the complete show on DVD. Unless you want to spend the extra cash on the UK season sets, this is a must buy for fans who do not own the show.

Did I mention how great the show is?

FYI - Since the listing doesn’t let you know specifically, Season 3 in Due South: The Ultimate Collection INCLUDES Call of the Wild Parts 1 & 2 so you don’t need to purchase the separate DVD.
